Review: The Mayfair Mall Zine

'4 Shots' is the debut EP from Ramsgate's Collateral.  Who I hear you say?  Collateral formally known as The Angelo Tristan Band, since moving to Thanet in 2014, Angelo re-branded bringing in Todd Winger (guitar), Jack Bentley Smith (bass) and Ben Atkinson (drum) and renaming the band Collateral.

I’ve been doing writing for some 20 years now and very rarely does an EP blow my away, but '4 Shots' is just one of those rare occasions. Mixed and recorded at Ten 21 by Sean Kenny and mastered by Grammy award nominee, Robin Shmitz, of 24-96 Mastering in Germany, these four tracks are worthy of any big name stadium rock band.

Opening up with 'Going With The Wind’ an instant classic, in Tristan they have a great vocalist who voices a raw soulfulness and the guitar work from himself and Winger is just superb.  Add to the mix Atkinson’s drums and Smith’s bass and this opening is just pure Hard Rock ear-candy, and it just gets better from here. The second track 'Midnight Queen' is the current single and brings in a little Bluesy edge to the EP.  Again Tristan vocals drive this mid-tempo rocker.  If this got the radio airplay it deserves then this band would be the talk of rock world. The third track 'Angels Crying' is a stunning ballad that will warm the coldest of hearts.  A stunning mix of bluesy and acoustic guitars that are simply stunning.

The final track 'Just Waiting For You' starts off with a soaring guitar and mellow rhythm section and just builds on this into one hell of rock song, that mixes all the flavours of the previous three tracks into one big melting pot of pure rock n' roll.

If this is just a taster of what Collateral can do I can't wait for a full album.  If you're looking for the future of rock n' roll in this country in 2019, then look no further than Collateral.

Look out for this band in 2019 as they're gonna be huge!
