There are many pleasurable listening moments inside Procol's Ninth release. And unlike the very popular TV series, there is no sinister content within although there are many twists and unexpected musical turns awaiting the listener inside this number 9 release.
This expanded 3CD edition, which was recorded at The Who's Battersea studios and produced by legendary songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, captures the band taking a more straightforward approach to their music.
Top tracks Pandora's Box and Fools Gold shine on brightly still as does the riffing The Unquiet Zone.
Yet, the inclusion of the producer's I Keep Forgetting and a forgettable cover of The Beatles' Eight Days A Week still jar and rattle taking the spotlight away from the otherwise mighty, meaty content.
However, two further discs of live shows from New Jersey and Leicester University in 1975 including live versions of the studio tracks and more, make this another desirable fan collectable.
